Our Research
On the research front, our department has strengthened our leadership and impact by engaging in research translation, deepening partnerships and engagement to deliver societal impact in a sustainable way. We continue to develop our technical expertise to advance both specialist and interdisciplinary research in the following areas:
Entrepreneurship in Emerging Markets
At the nexus of business and society, we research social entrepreneurship and innovation, such as value creation in social enterprise and sustainable business models that fulfil social, economic and environmental responsibilities. We also study the entrepreneurial capabilities for success and coping strategies among women entrepreneurs. Our research findings provide new insights and innovative solutions to policymakers and businesses, driving high-impact social change to society.
People and Work
Given the rapid technological advances and shifting demographics, our research focuses on sustainable workplace, health and well-being of people of all ages. We study three key issues that demand a new managerial mindset: work-life balance amid the changing nature of work, global mobility, and ageing at work. In addition, we research health and well-being issues affecting organisations and society.
Our multidisciplinary approach includes collaborations with researchers from other fields and the use of various research methods such as quantitative, qualitative, computational, and experimental approaches. We aim to accelerate progressive discovery and implement behavioural practices that drive sustainable change for businesses and workers.
Our Engagement
The Department of Management is committed to establishing strong partnerships with businesses, communities and government to advance research and curriculum development. These efforts provide our students with first-hand experiences to directly engage with entrepreneurs, corporate leaders and practitioners through talks, lectures and workshops. We also work closely with the Entrepreneurship & Innovation Hub in the School, providing students with access to up-to-date resources such as rapid prototyping tools as well as seed funding for new business ideas.
At the same time, we prioritise valuable experiences that build responsible citizens and leaders. Through our partnership with Dialogue in the Dark (a social enterprise supporting visually-impaired individuals and people with disabilities), workshops were organised where students experienced a simulation in total darkness, providing valuable hands-on experiences integrated with reflective assignments examining topics related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and management competencies.
We also collaborate with the 'Learning and Leadership in Asia' podcast channel, giving our students a platform to exchange leadership insights with industry practitioners and elevate their profile for future career opportunities.
