Our Research

At the Department of Finance, research is a cornerstone of our work. We aim for research conducted to meaningfully impact the way policymakers, regulators and financial institutions operate. Our focus research areas include corporate finance, corporate governance, investment in financial markets and cryptocurrencies, fintech initiatives and their impact, Islamic banking and finance, price discovery process and sustainable finance.

Our academic faculty and researchers have published in several first-rate journals (A* journals based on the Australian Business Deans Council). We also closely collaborate with colleagues from universities worldwide, leveraging on a strong global academic network.

In line with our emphasis on quality research, our researchers including the honours, master’s and PhD students have access to a wide range of finance databases: Audit Analytics, Bloomberg, CEIC data (Global Economic Data, Indicators, Charts & Forecasts), Refinitiv Eikon DataStream and Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) to assist in their work. They also have access to excellent Statistical Softwares such as Eviews, SAS, SmartPls, SPSS, and STATA to conduct research. Additionally, our research students are supervised by experts in the field to ensure top-quality research outcomes.

Our Engagement

The Department of Finance enjoys strong partnerships with professional bodies, namely Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA),  Chartered Market Technicians (CMT), and Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (AICB), ensuring we stay connected with the industry and creating diverse learning opportunities for our students.

These partnerships have paved the way for scholarships for professional body qualifications, career events, investment competitions and equity research analysis competitions. Our external engagement efforts have also provided students with valuable opportunities to apply learned skills, grow professional networks and receive career mentoring in banking and finance.
