All capstone units have to be taken in Malaysia. BEW3102 is not to be taken while a student is on exchange. Students can use their experiential learning while they are abroad and complete the BEW3102 assignment when they enroll in the unit after they have returned to Malaysia from their exchange.
You may go for exchange in your final semester if the units you plan to take for exchange can fit into your study plan at MUM. However, we do not encourage final semester exchange because of the different timelines for partner universities to issue their results which may affect or cause late graduation in some cases. If students opt for exchange in their final semester, Monash will not be responsible in the event of late graduation as a result of late result released by the partner institution.
The average WAM required for Global Intercampus Exchange is as follows:
i. Caulfield - 60%
ii. Clayton - 70%
The Mathematics qualifications required for Global intercampus Exchange is as follows:
i. Caulfield - Year 12 Maths
ii. Clayton - Year 12 Higher Maths
Please find attached a list of equivalent Math units.
Please refer to the Monash Abroad website for the latest application deadlines.
All units available in Monash University campuses are available in the Handbook. Please search the unit by the Monash University Malaysia unit code and look under "Requisites" -> “PROHIBITION” to find the equivalent Monash University Australia's unit code.
The list of partner universities and their requirements can be found on the Monash Abroad page.
The inter-campus exchange is only for a semester (6 months) and the inter university exchange is for either 1-2 semesters (6 months to 1 year). That would however, be depending on the structure of your course map as well.
The university has to be a partner university of MUM. Kindly refer to the Monash Abroad Portal for the list of affiliated universities.
Please refer to the Monash Abroad website for more details.
Strictly, you can explore equivalent units that meet the requirements of your major. However, if you are concerned about course constraint, you may wish to keep your elective units for exchange.
It is your responsibility to match the units by referring to your exchange institution in the Monash Abroad Portal (under the tab Academic Details > Handbook/Catalogue). Students who applied for exchange must do a full time learning and enroll with a minimum of 3 units per semester.
Please also watch all the videos and read the information on the Study Abroad Information Session Page particularly the video related to Study Plan to understand better about your course planning for exchange.
All other general rules on course progression and study plans as per listed in the Course Map Planning Guide and Unit Schedule remain the same - please closely refer to these pages when filling in your Course Map Tool or DIY course map (under Course forms).
The school will process the application and check the course map after the deadline of application is closed.

Yes, we would highly recommend that you completed all your core and major units in Malaysia and keep your electives for exchange. Most MIB core/major units are not equivalent to the exchange units.
No, but we strongly recommend students to go for Monash exchange because the equivalent units can be checked directly from the units listed under Requisites -> Prohibitions in the respective unit handbook.
You can also go for exchange to other institutions, but we will not have the list of approved equivalent units for these institutions. For interuniversity exchange, we would highly recommend that you complete all your core and major units in Malaysia and keep your electives for exchange. Most MIB core/major units are not equivalent to the exchange units.
It depends on whether similar majors are offered in the exchange institution. Even if similar majors are offered, the units may not always be equivalent to those offered by Monash.

-met our English language requirements.
Once you’re satisfied you meet the entry requirements, you need to apply through the exchange office at your home institution. They will nominate you to study with us, and then we'll send you the application form to complete and return.

Eligible Commonwealth supported place students can also apply for an OS-HELP loan.
Where you have a choice at your host institution of a pass/fail or graded credit for a unit, you must choose graded credit.
Results for units completed on exchange or study abroad, don't affect your Weighted Average Mark (WAM).
Your academic record (transcript)
Your host institution will give you an official academic transcript showing all of your enrolled units and your final results. Please make sure you follow any instructions from your host institution to request your transcript.
In some cases, the host institution will provide your transcript to you directly. Whether it's electronic or in hard copy, it's your responsibility to provide a verified version to Monash Abroad.
In other cases, your host institution will forward your academic transcript to Monash Abroad. We'll send a copy to your faculty, update your Monash record, and we'll notify you to come and collect the original from our office. We'll destroy any uncollected originals of transcripts after twelve months.
Finding outlines for the units you want to study on exchange can take quite some time. We recommend you allow at least two to six weeks to do this.
If you're applying for an exchange, first check the Monash Abroad Portal (MAP) brochure for the institution you're interested in. If it's available, there will be a link to unit information on the academic details tab.
Failing that, or if you're an independent study abroad student, thoroughly search the host institution’s website for a comprehensive list of units, a handbook or prospectus. Sometimes the terminology is different; a handbook can be called a catalogue, a calendar or bulletin. They can often be tucked away somewhere that may not seem logical...keep searching!
-If the host institution has a page for exchange students, it may provide some guidance on how to find unit descriptions.
- A unit can be called a course, a subject, a module or even a program.
- Try searching by unit name or keywords within the unit name, or the unit code (not both simultaneously).
Other places to search
-Speak to your faculty advisers; some faculties have lists of pre-approved units they can recommend for your semester abroad.
-Try a Google search using the unit code or name plus the institution name.
If you've done a really thorough search and still can’t find any unit outlines, in your application there is a question about unit outlines in which you will find a link to a form where you can request assistance.
Yes, you can still study overseas for a semester, provided:
-you're still in good standing
-you've completed the minimum credits required (see the entry requirements page for more details)
-it doesn't bring the Weighted Average Mark (WAM) for your current degree below 60%, and
-you're not required to repeat the failed unit during your intended exchange period.
If you would like to do an intercampus exchange at Monash Malaysia, you’ll need to submit an online application through the Monash Abroad Portal.
For step-by-step instructions, see our webpage on how to apply.
We suggest you allow four to six months to complete the application process.
The application to study for a semester overseas is a two-step process. You first apply to Monash Abroad to study overseas for credit to your Monash University degree. Once you've been provisionally approved by Monash Abroad, you then apply to the host institution.
Get started on your application early
You should research where you can and want to spend the semester of study overseas early, as it's important to get your application in on time. As the information at the potential host institution is not always easily available, it can take students up to three months to complete an application.
How to apply
For step-by-step instructions, entry requirements, and key dates, see our page on how to apply.
Notification of outcome
It can take up to four months after you’ve applied to the overseas host institution before you're notified of the outcome.
If you're enrolled as an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework student at Monash Australia and have been approved by your faculty to go on an overseas program, you’ll be eligible to receive a Monash Abroad travel grant and comprehensive travel insurance.
More details can be found at Monash Abroad Travel Grant.
We advise students to complete all accounting units on the Malaysia campus to ensure a smooth process in obtaining your ACCA exemptions. Students can take accounting unit(s) on our other Monash campuses. However, it may be subject to queries or even non-granting of exemption from ACCA UK. ACCA exemptions are granted based on our unit codes and not by Monash as a whole. Some students may not know how to deal with these circumstances, resulting in not getting the exemptions.
Nevertheless, if you insist on taking the accounting units in MUA, I would suggest that you see Dr. Lee Mei Yee for a personalised zoom meeting to understand what units you are taking and the risk level exposed. Ultimately, students will take their own risk of not getting full ACCA exemption by taking those units during GIP. SOB will not be held liable if this happens.
Should you require further clarification, you are advised to see Dr. Lee Mei Yee for Zoom consultation every Thursday from 1.30-3.30pm.
