Startup Bootcamp 2023 was eventful with over 70 participants and various of inspiring industry speakers

The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Hub (eiHub) of the School of Business at Monash University Malaysia hosted their annual Start-Up Bootcamp. This year's Start-Up Bootcamp featured over 70 Participants from across 7 different educational institutions.

This year's theme “My Resilient City” asked teams to identify issues and innovate solutions to build their vision for the urban landscape of the future. Challenge the status quo, rethink the possible, and bring potential to life with their startup idea for the resilient city.

The Bootcamp brought about great ideas ranging from solving transportation and mobility hurdles to diving into innovative clean energy sources to exploring the cultural treasures and social connections of bustling cities, and elderly accessibility. Participants of the Bootcamp showcased a unique view of how they see the present and the vision they have for their future.

Day 1 - Startup Bootcamp

Our esteemed guest speakers on Day 1’s “Fireside Chat” were Kyle E, Founder of POW IDEAS, Jack Lim, Co-Founder of KL Society and Andre Lai, Advisory Board Member Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL).

Day 2.1 - Startup BootcampOn Day 2, participants engaged in multiple Masterclasses, led by Lectures from Monash University Malaysia; Dr. Hirra Butt and Dr. Daniel Loy, from School of Business, Dr. Issac Lim from School of Engineering and special mentor, Daniel Cerventus,Founder, Malaysia Entrepreneurs Community Manager, Techstars Startup Weekend.

Day 2.2 - Startup Bootcamp

Day 2.3 - Startup BootcampThe day continued with one-to-one group sessions with various Mentors, such as Kyle E, Dr. Shazmin Khalid from School of Business, Yoong Yi, Founder of Precious Plastics Malaysia, Daniel Chiew,Product Manager of FutureLab, Daniel Cervantus and Ahmad Kashfi Alwi (Ash), Senior VP of Ecosystem Development Cradle Fund.

Day 2 of the Startup Bootcamp wrapped up with another session of “Fireside Chat” with Ehon Chan of Thinker & Do-er Ehon Chan Consulting and Mallory Loone, Co-Founder of Work Inspires.

Day 3 of the Start-up Bootcamp gathered participants for one last round of one-to-one group sessions with Yoong Yi, Nensirati of Supahan Design Lead, SEEdLab My, and Lim Yuet Kim, Co-Founder and CEO of PichaEats as they finalise their ideas for the Final Pitch!

The judging panel for this round's Start-Up Bootcamp was a blend of academic and industry leaders:

  • Esther Yap, Founder and CEO, Stellar SparX International
  • Prof. Chaiporn Vithessonthi, Professor, School of Business Monash University Malaysia

Day 3.1 - Startup Bootcamp
The 3 winning teams were selected from a large number of proposal submissions spanning across participants of diversified backgrounds. Congratulations to Team Sassy Entrepreneurs as the First-Place winner, earning RM 5,000 cash for their ingenious concept, "The GreenFlow Project: A breath for tomorrow" , aimed at using Algae in public infrastructures to improve air quality standards. Additionally, the 1st and 2nd runner up teams Team ideas and Team Sid. Also received Cash prizes of RM2,500 and RM1,500 respectively for their ideas in innovating peer to peer communication/exposure and enhancing the tourism experience.
