Monash Startup Bootcamp 2025: A Weekend of Innovation and Entrepreneurship

The Monash Entrepreneurship and Innovation Hub (EIHUB) at Monash University Malaysia successfully hosted the Monash Startup Bootcamp 2025, a high-energy 2.5 day innovation experience held from 28 to 30 November 2025. This year’s edition welcomed 114 participants from 20 institutions across Malaysia, including university students, recent graduates, and young professionals eager to explore the startup journey.

Guided by 12 industry mentors, 6 masterclass facilitators, and 6 entrepreneur speakers, participants transformed bold ideas into validated, pitch-ready solutions. The Bootcamp blended hands-on learning, real-world problem-solving, and deep industry insights. It continued its mission of nurturing Malaysia’s next generation of innovators.

Kickoff and Team Formation

The Bootcamp opened with an energising welcome and challenge framing by Dr Daniel Loy, Program Director of the Monash Entrepreneurship and Innovation Hub. This was followed by a series of fast-paced 1 minute idea pitches. Participants formed teams based on shared interests and problem statements, setting the stage for a weekend of creativity, experimentation, and entrepreneurial resilience.

From the first evening, teams worked closely with mentors and the organising committee to validate assumptions, understand target users, and shape preliminary solutions. These early steps built a strong foundation for the masterclasses and the Final Pitch.

Expert-Led Masterclasses

Day 2 featured six high-impact masterclasses designed to equip participants with essential tools and frameworks for building impactful ventures. Topics included AI marketing, user validation, prototyping, 3D printing, pitch development, and AI-assisted vibe coding.

These sessions helped teams progress from ideation to validation to execution with structure and confidence.

Mentor Sessions: Guidance From Experienced Builders

Throughout the Bootcamp, participants received personalised guidance from 12 industry mentors, each bringing unique expertise from fields such as emotional wellbeing, fintech, engineering innovation, edtech, sustainability, F&B operations, venture building, and digital strategy. Mentors included founders, industry leaders, Monash academics, and Bootcamp alumni who have gone on to build impactful careers. This diverse group included Su Yen Koh (Emotion Pod & Monash alumnus), Dr Mirzet Seho, Dr Isaac Lim, Assoc. Prof. Rama from Monash University, Rickson Khaw (Uni Enrol & Monash alumnus), Faiz Hassan (Cradle), Nensirati Supahan (Seedlab), Gary Gan (Hexa Food), Evan Wong (OneWorld Real Estate & Monash alumnus), Abdul Haris (Asia School of Business), Divyah Thiagu (Gentari & Monash alumnus), and Ziqian Ho (ZUS Coffee & Monash alumnus).

During mentor clinics and check-ins, teams refined their value propositions, identified user pain points, strengthened their business models, and gained practical insights drawn from real-world experience. The direct access to these mentors provided participants with clarity and direction, helping them elevate their ideas into more grounded and scalable venture concepts.

Fireside Chats: Learning from Real Founders

Participants also joined two evening Fireside Chats, intimate conversations with founders shaping Malaysia’s entrepreneurial landscape. These sessions offered honest and practical insights into how ideas begin, how ventures grow, and what it takes to build something meaningful.

Fireside Chat 1: Igniting Ideas (Day 1)

The first conversation brought together innovators across social impact, AI, edtech, and biotechnology. The speakers were Ryan Kang (UnBound), Natalie Loi (UnBound), and Jun Kit Mah (BioLoop).

This session explored how ideas emerge from lived experiences, how founders refine concepts through experimentation, and how purpose-driven innovation evolves over time. The panel shared stories about building social movements, creating global education technology, merging creativity with engineering, and advancing sustainable biotech solutions.
The discussion encouraged participants to view innovation as a human-centered process rooted in empathy, intention, resilience, and a desire to improve lives.

Fireside Chat 2: Building for the Real World (Day 2)

The second conversation featured founders with journeys shaped by culture, community engagement, rapid testing, and resourcefulness. The speakers were Prestine Dave Khaw (MalaysianPAYGAP and PAYGAP Asia), Shawn Tham (UniLah) and Radius Khor (Kee Nguyễn).

This session offered a practical and relatable look at building products for real users, especially students and young audiences. The founders discussed how to identify genuine needs, validate ideas quickly, scale responsibly without major funding, build strong brand identity, and maintain operational consistency.
The conversation showed that successful ventures often begin with simple insights, constant experimentation, and a deep understanding of people.
