Monash Students Crowned Champions at MICPA x CA ANZ Accountancy Week 2026

Monash University Malaysia is proud to celebrate an outstanding achievement at the 26th MICPA x CA ANZ Accountancy Week, hosted by University of Putra Malaysia. Our students–Liew Jun Yuen, Farah Shahizan, and Ain Sofea–emerged as Champions in the Accounting Quiz (Degree Level) after an impressive performance against leading universities from across Malaysia.
The competition attracted more than 32 teams from 15 universities. In the preliminary round, teams were challenged with questions spanning financial accounting, auditing, taxation, and general knowledge. Demonstrating strong technical expertise and breadth of knowledge, the Monash team secured a place among the top four finalists.
The grand final raised the stakes further, requiring competitors to combine precision with speed as they raced to answer questions using a buzzer system. After an intense contest that saw Monash tied with another finalist, the championship was decided through a nail-biting tiebreaker round. Remaining calm under pressure, our students delivered an exceptional performance to claim the championship title.
The event concluded with an inspiring closing address by Datuk Umar Swift, MICPA Council Member and CA ANZ Regional Councillor. A Monash alumnus, he encouraged aspiring accountants to embrace the evolving role of the profession and to create value in an increasingly dynamic business environment.

Reflecting on the experience, the team described the competition as both intellectually challenging and immensely rewarding. They noted that success required not only strong accounting knowledge but also broad general awareness, teamwork, and the ability to perform under pressure. The students also expressed their appreciation for the engaging learning environment at Monash University Malaysia and the unwavering support from the School of Business and the Department of Accounting, which helped build the confidence and capabilities that contributed to this remarkable achievement.
Congratulations to Liew Jun Yuen, Farah Shahizan, and Ain Sofea on this well-deserved accomplishment. Their success is a testament to the excellence, resilience, and collaborative spirit that define our Monash community.
