To be eligible to enrol into the unit:
Follow the instructions via the following link for more information: Postgraduate students.
No, you cannot enrol into this unit through the WES system. Once you have been confirmed for an internship and have met all the requirements, please submit your application via InPlace and EMO School of Arts and Social Sciences will facilitate your enrolment as shown in this link.
Applications received outside of the InPlace platform will strictly NOT be processed.
Start early by preparing your application documents (resume, cover letter, course progression map, etc.) and researching the organisations where you wish to pursue an internship. We recommend that you start this process at least two or three months ahead before the deadline.
To begin with the application process, kindly submit your request to apply for an internship letter via google form.
The internship letter is a general letter issued by the School of Arts and Social Sciences to support students in their internship application with potential employers. Some employers may request for this letter to verify the students university status and internship requirements.
Each student is issued with one letter only with the following information:
Yes, the deadline to submit your internship application for AMG5751 is on Friday of the second week in December.
Please refer to the Monash Handbook for more information on the assessment details or contact the unit coordinator for more information: Dr Taesik Kim (Postgraduate).
All internship placements offered by SASS are student sourced (self-placements or source your own).
If you have very specific interests and preferences, you can use your network of contacts to find your own self-placement. You can contact the host organisation and arrange to complete a placement by meeting the internship criterias.
Students may intern at their internship placement according to the following requirements:
*Any internship duration completed outside of the requirement period will not be
allowed and will automatically be made unsuccessful.
Placements need to be meaningful and relevant to your studies where you are able to demonstrate what you have learned from your course during your placement in the host organisation. Additionally, this is an opportunity to explore different career pathways before deciding on your full time job.
Due to the current situation, some host organisations will request students to attend onsite, some hosts will deliver the placement 100% remotely, and others will offer a hybrid placement, (a combination of remote and onsite).
However, to gain the utmost experience during your internship, the School would like to request all students to secure a 100% face to face internship placement and if you have any further concerns on the mode of the internship, please contact the unit coordinator via email immediately to seek further approval on the other types or modes of placement.
Host organisations are not required to pay a student completing an internship. In most instances, the organisation may offer a monthly allowance or subsidise your transport costs. However, it is very rare to negotiate for a salary.
The students are required to ensure that the hosting organisation/placement is verifiable and is a reliable place to work. With this, the application should be able to verify the organisation’s details including the company registration number, company certificate, company website and supervisor’s business card (e.g.: name, contact number and company email address).
