Message from the Head of School
Welcome to the School of Arts and Social Sciences
The School of Arts and Social Sciences is committed to providing its students with a flexible, multi-disciplinary and innovative curriculum that equips them with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to succeed in a complex, fast-changing and globalised world as well as the ethical values to help them make responsible choices in their careers and as active citizens. Broadly, our various undergraduate, postgraduate and higher degree by research programs in areas as diverse as digital media and communication, gender studies, global studies, film, television and screen studies, psychology, public relations and writing are aimed at producing well-rounded graduates with vital critical thinking and problem-solving skills that enable them to become doers, thinkers and leaders in addressing a wide range of contemporary global, regional and national challenges. Our curriculum provides opportunities for an international learning experience, to engage in work integrated learning, and to embark on internships.
At the heart of the School is a vibrant community of dedicated and inspiring staff who, through their involvement in cutting-edge research; external engagement with government, industry and community; as well as commitment to creative forms of teaching, create an environment in which students actively learn how to apply current research practices and specialised knowledge to analyse complex real-world problems and offer innovative solutions.
These attributes have allowed our graduates over the past two decades to embark on exciting careers worldwide in governments, international organisations, corporations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), think tanks and universities. Some of our graduates have launched their own business ventures and today are successful entrepreneurs. Do take time to hear directly from our graduates who attribute a good part of their success to their training in Arts and Social Sciences.
I invite you to learn more about our courses, research, staff and alumni at this site. If you choose to embark on your tertiary education with us at the School of Arts and Social Sciences, I am confident you will find your experience an inspiring and memorable one that will change the way you look at the world around you and act in it.
