Online Gender-Based Violence: Reporting, Regulations & Misinformation, a panel discussion surrounding how online gender-based violence is reported in the Malaysian media, the challenges in regulating online spaces, as well as the misinformation surrounding online gender-based violence.

The panel will feature three subject matter experts - Ms Mediha Mahmood of Content Forum, Dr Sabariah Mohamed Salleh from UKM and Ms Pavitra Muniandy from AWAM Malaysia.

Mediha Mahmood is a legal and regulatory professional with over 20 years of experience in top law firms (Shearn Delamore & Co and Zul Rafique & Partners) and public-listed companies (PwC, Astro and Air Asia). As CEO of the Communications and Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia (CMCF), she is committed to fostering an ethical and inclusive content ecosystem.

She has spearheaded industry-wide reforms, including the revamp of the Content Code and initiatives that strengthen responsible content governance. Through her work, Mediha actively advocates for the protection of vulnerable communities—including women, children, and persons with disabilities—ensuring that digital spaces are safer, more inclusive, and aligned with the broader needs of society.

Associate Professor Dr Sabariah Mohamed Salleh is an expert in Media and Information Literacy (MIL). A PhD graduate from the University of Vienna in the area of Journalism and Communication Science (Publizistik und Kommunikationwissenschaft), she recently developed Malaysia’s Journalism Code of Ethics. She is also a co-founder and head secretariat of JomCheck Malaysia, the country’s first factchecking alliance. In addition, she led a team in developing a digital literacy framework for the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission flagship programme, Klik Dengan Bijak.

Pavitra Muniandy is an advocate for gender equality and social justice, leveraging her expertise as a law graduate in her role as a services officer at All Women's Action Society (AWAM). With a strong focus on addressing gender-based violence, Pavitra plays a vital role in monitoring and coordinating legal pupils and intern counselors who provide essential legal information and counseling sessions to survivors. She has been at the forefront of providing comprehensive support and guidance to individuals/ survivors by ensuring they have access to the necessary resources and information to make informed decisions. Her dedication to promoting gender equality and providing vital information has impacted the lives of countless survivors.
