Personal statement

Pooria is an Associate Professor  and first year coordinator at School of Engineering, Monash University Malaysia with a speciality in polymer nanocompocites. He has obtained his both Bachelor and Master degrees in Iran in Ceramic Engineering and Material Science and Engineering, respectively and he received his PhD from University of Science Malaysia in 2010. He did a short postdoc with Geological Survey of South Australia Resources and Energy Group on characterization of various halloysite nanotubes from different origins at University of Adelaide.

His current research interests at Monash concern the preparation, characterization and modelling of polymer nanocomposites for various applications including high impact polymer coatings, water filtration, built environment, 3D printing, automotive, biomaterials and self-healing.

In 2013 he completed a graduate certificate at Monash University on Higher Education where he focused on the effect of different teaching techniques on the learning of undergraduate students in an Engineering Material subject.

Beside the engineering related projects he is interested to the entrepreneurship/intrapreneurship development topics helping industries in the area of nanotechnology to come up with new nanocomposite products.

Research Interests

Polymer Nanocomposites: Properties, Structure and Applications. In Advanced Materials Research group at Monash we work on preparation, characterization and modeling of polymer nancomposites for different applications. Our research projects include:

1.  Halloysite nanotubes as a nanotubular filler and carrier to improve the mechanical, thermal and releasing properties of polymer nanocomposites.

2.  Electrospun nanofibrous membranes for water filtration applications.

3.  Biopolymer bionanocomposites for food packaging applications.

4.  Multicore microcapsules for self-healing composites.

5. Advanced materials for built environment such as self-healing concretes.

6.  3D printing of polymer nanocomposites for various applications, from self-healing to isolation of bacteria.
