Who we are

Welcome to School of Engineering

Engineering programs began on the Monash Malaysia campus in July 1998.  Initially, Bachelor of Engineering degrees in the fields of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering were offered, with the subsequent introduction of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering, Chemical Engineering and, most recently, Civil Engineering in 2014.  These undergraduate degrees are identical to those offered at the Clayton campus, Melbourne Australia, and are discipline areas where there is strong demand for good quality graduates in Malaysia, the region and beyond.

Students may complete the entire degree program on campus in Malaysia.  They are also encouraged to gain international exposure by spending at least a semester as exchange student at Clayton or another international partner university of Monash in the course of their degree.

In 2005, the School commenced offering postgraduate higher degrees by research.  The numbers of MEngSc and PhD candidates continue to grow strongly.

The School has more than 1300 undergraduate students and 110 higher degree by research (HDR) candidates.  International students comprise 30% of the Engineering student population.  We have a strong cohort of full-time academic staff, with approximately 49% of the academic staff are expatriates, providing a truly international experience.

The Bachelor of Engineering programs are accredited by both the Engineering Accreditation Council Malaysia (managed by the Board of Engineers Malaysia) and Engineers Australia.  This confers both local and international recognition (via the Washington Accord) for graduates of Monash Engineering programs.
