Outreach at SMK Cochrane, KL
On the 6th of July 2023, Monash IChemE Student Chapter's first hybrid outreach event, "Program STEM & Chemical Engineering" was organized in collaboration with SMK Cochrane, Kuala Lumpur. The event encompassed an infographic design competition and a physical hands-on workshop aimed to foster awareness and interest in STEM and chemical engineering among younger students. The goal was to provide them with fresh perspectives and practical experiences, inspiring them to consider pursuing these fields in the near future.
The physical workshop involved 116 Form 3 students of SMK Cochrane. Within this workshop, the students actively participated in the building and testing of chemical reaction cars utilizing vinegar and baking soda. The event concluded successfully with 20 DIY cars built and tested by the participating students. A prize was awarded to the team whose DIY car traveled the farthest distance.
For the infographic design competition, we received 12 submissions with the theme "The Contributions of Chemical Engineering in the Real World" for which 3 winners were selected.
