Engineers Without Borders Malaysia Summit 2025

The Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Malaysia Student Chapter Summit 2025 took place on March 23rd, from 1.00 pm to 5.00 pm, hosted at Monash University Malaysia. This national summit served as a platform for collaborations, strategic discussions, and knowledge exchange between EWB Malaysia and student chapters from Nottingham University Malaysia, University of Malaya, Heriot-Watt University Malaysia, and Monash University Malaysia. A total of 21 participants attended, with two joining online. This annual gathering aimed to strengthen relationships between student-led chapters and the national body while fostering a collective vision for future initiatives and projects.

The event began with opening remarks to welcome the participants and the guest speaker, Sanjiv Indran, who serves as the President of EWB Malaysia and EWB International. Sanjiv emphasized the importance of the summit in uniting student chapters, fostering discussion on key matters, and strengthening inter-chapter collaboration. He set an informal and engaging tone, which encouraged a relaxed yet productive atmosphere. His insights on leadership and collaboration within the engineering community provided valuable perspective on how student chapters can contribute meaningfully to EWB Malaysia’s overall mission.

The summit proceeded with student chapters sharing updates into their past projects, committee structures, key partnerships, and future initiatives. Each chapter provided an overview of their achievements and challenges, with discussions on strategies for growth, leadership transitions, and student engagement. The importance of proper documentation and archiving of events was also highlighted to ensure continuity and knowledge transfer for future office bearers. A significant focus was placed on overcoming challenges such as recruitment, fundraising, and maintaining long-term project sustainability, with suggestions for practical solutions to enhance the effectiveness of each chapter.

The second half of the summit focused on publicity, marketing strategies, and organizational structures. Discussions covered efforts to improve outreach, including enhanced social media collaboration, website updates, and establishing a collective approach to content sharing. The importance of maintaining an active presence to attract new members and stakeholders was emphasized, with suggestions for better event recaps and digital engagement.

The summit concluded with a networking and mingling session, where participants had the opportunity to build connections, exchange ideas, and get to know each other. This session allowed members to discuss potential collaborations on future projects and share insights from their respective chapters in a more informal setting. A group photo session marked the end of the event, capturing the spirit of collaboration and commitment among participants. Refreshments were provided, ensuring a pleasant closing to the productive discussions.

The EWB Malaysia Student Chapter Summit 2025 successfully facilitated meaningful discussions, strengthened collaboration, and provided clear action plans for future initiatives. The event underscored the shared commitment of all participants to driving positive change through engineering and humanitarian efforts. The collective dedication displayed throughout the summit set a strong foundation for continued growth and impact within EWB Malaysia and its student chapters.
