Barry is a Fellow Chartered Professional Geotechnical Engineer with more than 24 years of experience. He is highly skilled in design review and identifying ways to optimise initial design concepts during tender and construction stages, and has provided innovative, “fit-for-purpose” design solutions for the geotechnical aspects of major transport infrastructure projects in Australia and internationally, including the Pacific Highway Upgrade (Varsity Lakes to Tugun, QLD), New England Highway Upgrade - Bolivia Hill (NSW), New Priok Port Extension (Jakarta, Indonesia), Gateway Upgrade North (QLD), Ipswich Motorway Upgrade (QLD), Peninsula Link (VIC), Adelaide Desalination Plant (SA), Taiwan High Speed Rail, and the Putrajaya Highway (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia). Barry is one of the pioneers championing the application of reliability-based geotechnical design for soft soils engineering internationally, driven by risk assessment, CAPEX and OPEX analysis. He mentors young engineers and publishes case studies and technical papers on reliability-based geotechnical design (RBGD), back-analysis of secondary consolidation post-construction settlement, instrumented piled foundations, ground improvement solutions and complex hybrid retaining structures/systems. Since 2021, Barry has been actively engaged with Griffith University as Industry Fellow and Lead Partner Investigator on multiple federal-level grants (Australian Research Council and Innovative Manufacturing CRC), mentoring the R&D team on the impact of artificial intelligence and simulation neural networks on soft soils engineering through proof-of-concept and field application.
