Regional Chemical Engineering Undergraduate Conference 2020

Congratulations to Janice Leong Suet Lin for winning the paper writing competition at the Regional Chemical Engineering Undergraduate Conference (RCEUC) held from 8-9 September 2020!

Janice, who submitted her final year research project titled “Modelling Production of Ethanol via Consolidated Bioprocessing of Cellulose: Population Balances Interlinked with Cybernetic Model based on Generalized Matching and Proportional Laws for Maximization of Substrate Uptake”, emerged as the champion amongst many participants from established universities. She was awarded RM1000 and a certificate.

This year’s RCEUC was conducted online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. More than 80 undergraduates from various institutions from Malaysia, India, Vietnam and Indonesia participated in the online conference. The RCEUC serves as an avenue for chemical engineering undergraduates to present their research or design projects on an international platform. This year, RCEUC incorporates two competitions: Online Presentation and Paper Writing segments.

Another two students from Monash also did us proud in the Online Presentation segment.

  • Phyllis Tong Li with her research project titled “Acid and Alkaline Pre-treatment for Biochar to be used in Direct Carbon Fuel Cell”, was awarded the 1 st runner up certificate and RM500;
  • Dora Lawrencia with her research project titled “Controlled Synthesis of Uniform Calcium Alginate Microbeads via Ionotropic Gelation”, emerged as the 2 nd runner up, received a certificate and RM300.

Thank you for making us proud with your achievements! The School also wishes to thank Dr Joseph Ho, Dr Estee and Dr Patrick Tang for supervising the students!
