Monash University Symposium of ChemicaL Engineering (MUSCLE)

Monash University Chemical Engineering Symposium was successfully organised by Monash IChemE Student Chapter from 10 to 11 April 2021. This event was held virtually via Zoom with a total of 116 participants.

Beside Monash, students from other universities and colleges such as University of Malaya, Curtin University, UCSI University, University of Nottingham, Universiti Teknologi Petronas, UTAR, Xiamen University, Heriot Watt University, Taylor’s College, Sunway College and many more participated in the event.

Alumni and professionals from various chemical engineering industries were invited to give an insight on skill sets required as an engineer, the future of chemical engineering, and career paths of chemical engineering in different industries. Besides getting an insight on what’s next after university life, participants also got to apply their problem-solving skills in a competition, standing a chance to win from a total prize pool of RM3300.

The competitions were made up of a general quiz as well as a presentation on the topic given. The topics given were all related to covid-19 pandemic and participants had fun discussing various ways to solve the problem at hand.

It was refreshing to see participants from different colleges and universities work together to accomplish the tasks given and have fun with each other during breakout room sessions. Participants also got a chance to meet new friends as they actively participated in all the group activities.

Good teamwork among the committee members made the event a big success. A big shout out to Dr Jully Tan and the team!
