Research Hub Structure

Climate change is a complex process, change or impact - the definition changes based on the perception. Ecological resilience and adaptation to changing climate are crucial and demand proactive stewardship (Moore and Schindler, 2022). The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) identifies the impact of human activities-led climate action on the atmosphere, ocean, and land (https://www.ipcc.ch/reports/). Nonetheless, certain human activities are inevitable to ensure our existence, safety, and comfort. Infrastructure, not limited to the built environment alone, is one such human activity that dictates the quality and comfort of human existence on Earth. However, as rightly identified in defining the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13 (UN-SDG13) - "effective and equitable adaptation and mitigation actions can significantly reduce vulnerability and contribute to climate resilience" (https://sdgs.un.org/topic/climate-action-synergies). These aspects are the clear motivations governing the existence and execution of this research hub. The organisation of this research hub is focused on developing strategies to reduce carbon footprint and enhance the climate resilience of the built infrastructure, where the proposed solutions and implementation should be safe, economical, and scalable. Therefore, the research-focused themes comprehended in this hub specifically address critical aspects of built infrastructure, including Transforming Construction, Future Mobility, Extreme Hydroclimatics, and Digital Sustainability.

The research-focused themes are carefully planned using constructive alignment of the technology and mapping their interdependence. The alignment strategy emphasizes the interdependence of the themes and their achievability, strength, and suitability of the team, as well as the impact of expected outcomes. The themes of M-CRInfra address every interdisciplinary and critical aspect of the built infrastructure to enhance the low-carbon living and resilience in adapting to climate actions, with consideration of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) requirements.
