Computational Modelling & Simulation

The search for effective solutions to address global challenges related to energy, water, food and environment calls for necessary investigation into the underlying principles governed by scientific laws. In this research stream, we develop and use modern numerical methods to solve new mathematical problems arising in these grand challenges. Approaches such as computational fluid dynamics, population balances, molecular dynamics and the many-body hydrodynamics of colloidal suspensions have been the main focus of our research stream. In addition, we use simulation as a tool to optimise and design more efficient and better processes as well as plantwide optimisation and resources integration. Our approaches are used to resolve the fundamentals and applications in colloidal science, cellulose technology, and biochemical/metabolic engineering. At present, we are also actively bridging the gap to Industry Revolution 4.0 via process digitisation.
