UNWASTE 2022

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in corporation with the UN Environment Program (UNEP) and the United Nations Institute of Training and Research (UNITAR), designed the “Unwaste Project” (funded by European Union) on waste trafficking between the European Union and Southeast Asia (SEA). This project also focuses on Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. The latest quarterly bulletin of the project (October 2022) recognises e-waste research studies by Dr. Saman Ilankoon at the School of Engineering, Monash University Malaysia campus. He was invited to provide an expert view on informal e-waste collection and value recovery activities in Malaysia. As a key conclusion, Dr. Ilankoon recommends the integration of informal e-waste operations with more formal operations in Malaysia.
