Australia Awards - Malaysia Semester Program

A partnership between

The Australia Awards – Malaysia Semester Program is an Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) initiative, supported by Monash University Malaysia. It provides academically gifted but financially disadvantaged students with a fully funded opportunity to study abroad for a semester at Monash University Australia.

This award is open only to full-time Malaysian students who have not previously participated in the Semester in Australia program.

The award is valued at up to AUD $17,500 per recipient and covers:

  • Living expenses in Australia, return flights, Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) insurance, student visa application fees and all other miscellaneous costs.
  • One-semester stay in on-campus accommodation at Monash Residential Services (MRS)

The final award value may vary and is subject to the total grant funding available, the number of eligible recipients, and the terms of the funding agreement

In order to be considered for the award, applicants must:

  • Meet the requirements of the Semester in Australia program
  • Demonstrate strong academic record
  • Demonstrate financial need

In order to maintain the scholarship, recipients must adhere to the criteria stipulated in the scholarship terms and conditions.

All documents listed above are compulsory for the consideration of your scholarship application. Late applications or applications with incomplete documentation will not be considered.

For applicants whose parent or guardian does not have an income, an income declaration letter, verified by the Commissioner for Oaths, is required.

Only shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview and candidates who are successful in their interview will be awarded the scholarship.

Scholarships are awarded at the sole discretion of the university.

Ng Kong Lin Family Intercampus Scholarship

The Ng Family are of Malaysian background, where many members of the family are graduates of Monash University. The Ng Family values the importance of an international education and the unique experience it can provide for youth who are hoping to make a difference in their community.

The Ng Kong Lin Family Intercampus Scholarship is named after the late Mr Ng Kong Lin, who saw the value of education, and albeit uncommon for his generation, he sent his sons and daughters to Australia in the1960s for their tertiary education. Two of his children were the first of the Ng Family to be educated at Monash University.

This intercampus scholarship will enable academically bright but financially disadvantaged students from Monash Malaysia to undertake a one-semester exchange to Monash Australia - to give them an opportunity to embrace the international experience,  moving them towards accepting and understanding an array of different cultural and community perspectives that would eventually help them in becoming global citizens.

This scholarship is only open to full-time Malaysian students.

Each scholarship will have a value of up to AUD$16,000 which includes: -

  • AUD$8500 stipend (living expense in Australia, return flights,  Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) insurance, and all other miscellaneous costs).
  • 1 semester stay at one of Monash University Australia’s on-campus accommodation.

You must meet the following criteria:

  • Must meet the requirements for the Semester in Australia program.
  • Selection will be based on academic achievement and need-based as determined by the interview panel.

In order to maintain the scholarship, recipients must adhere to the criteria stipulated in the scholarship terms and conditions.
