A typical life-cycle of a peer mentor in the International Buddy Program

Apply to be a peer mentor.

Being shortlisted as a suitable candidate to become peer mentor.

Attend the mandatory briefing/training.

A peer mentor is assigned with one or more new international student(s).

Peer mentor meets with the new international students individually on weekly basis (for 3 to 4 weeks).

Peer mentor is to complete and submit the meeting logs to ISS at the end of the program.


  • Must be a full-time Monash University Malaysia student who has at least studied for one semester.
  • Must have achieved satisfactory academic performance.
  • Must have the intention to remain in the program for at least a year, over 2 semesters.
  • Must be willing to meet and engage on a weekly basis with matched international students individually.
  • Be willing to assist and engage in new experiences, and the sharing of culture and values.
  • Adhere to the International Buddy Program guidelines.


  • Contact the matched international students over the first 3 to 4 weeks of the semester to introduce himself/herself and answer questions.
  • Advise the matched international students on the academic resources and support services.
  • Work closely with the International Student Advisers throughout the International Buddy Program and report on any concerns or issues that the matched international students may have.
  • Maintain regular contact with the matched international students.
  • Attend training, group meetings, events and activities.

How to become a Peer Mentor?

Step 1: Download and complete the Peer Mentor application form.

Step 2: Submit the completed form to the International Student Support (ISS) office, located at Level 2 Building 2.

(Recruitment for July 2016 will be REOPENED in May 2016)

Step 3: Once you have been shortlisted, a staff from the ISS will contact you by phone or email.

Step 4: Thereafter, you will be notified to attend the mandatory Training for Peer Mentors.
