International Student Attendance Requirement

It is a requirement by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia for international students to maintain an overall minimum 80% attendance (coursework students) or satisfactory (research students) attendance in all classes and an overall minimum Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 50 throughout their course of study.

You are advised to maintain satisfactory attendance and WAM throughout your studies. Unsatisfactory levels of attendance and grades for some units may adversely affect your overall attendance and WAM, which may in turn affect the renewal of Student Pass.

Please note that attendance reporting for international students is a mandatory condition for student pass renewal applications.

Non-compliance to the attendance requirement (Absence without valid reasons and uncontactable for 14 days) will result in:

Notification to the police, Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia and Immigration Department of Malaysia; and/or
Cancellation / non-renewal of your student pass resulting in your course discontinuation

What do you need to do?

- Regularly attend in-person all scheduled classes;
- You will be provided a specific attendance code for each weekly teaching and learning activities in Moodle. You must record your attendance by uploading the code for each weekly teaching activities in the aPlus+ attendance recording system (refer to the user guide here);
- Attendance codes must be uploaded within seven (7) days from the commencement of the teaching and learning activity failing which you will be recorded as ‘absent - code’ in the aPlus+ system.
- If you are unable to attend classes, you must submit the relevant documents (e.g. medical certificate from doctor, police report, flight ticket, etc.) to the Attendance Coordinator at AskMira within 6 days of your absence from a scheduled teaching activity.
- Attend ALL scheduled meetings and maintain regular contacts with your main supervisor;
- Devote the required amount of time in research;
- Inform your main supervisor at the earliest possible time, when you have difficulty attending any meetings and/or meeting deadlines.
