Bachelor of Science (Honours)

    • There are two intakes per year (February and July intakes).
    • Entry requirements:
      • (1) (Successful completion of an Australian Bachelor of Science (or equivalent) with at least distinction average (70%) in 24 points of level three units (or equivalent) in the intended honours discipline. Refer to the Honours prerequisites table. (Under Areas of study) Note: Internship units are not considered for assessment.
      • (2) The level three units upon which admission to the Honours program is based must have been completed no more than five years prior to commencement of the course.
      • (3) Applicants must also meet the English language requirements.
    • There are 5 honours research areas - Biotechnology, Food science and technology, Medical bioscience, Medicinal chemistry and Tropical environmental biology. For students majoring in applied microbiology/ genomics and bioinformatics in Bachelor of Science, you will select biotechnology as the honours research area.

Starting from 2025, Psychology discipline is no longer offered in Bachelor of Science (Honours). Bachelor of Science students taking the extended psychology major who wish to continue to Honours should apply for M3708 Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) offered by Department of Psychology instead. Kindly email Department of Psychology for advice on the application process.

Information for non-Monash students

We encourage students from outside of Monash to apply for Bachelor of Science (Honours) at School of Science. Please seek advice from the Science Education Management Office (scienceinquiries.my@monash.edu) on the entry requirements.

How to apply?

  1. Refer to the July Intake 2026 Honours Topics and contact the supervisors to discuss your potential honours project.
  2. You will need to receive approval from the supervisor to take on their project for Honours. Make sure you receive an approval email from them after your discussion.
  3. Apply S3701 Bachelor of Science (Honours) online by creating an application account using your personal email address. In the application portal:
    1. Upload the complete Honours Project Form (Note: Please fill out the form digitally).
    2. Upload supervisor approval email (Note: Please save the email in PDF format ONLY).
    3. For Non-Monash students only - Upload the required documents based on the Important Checklist (page 6) including course structure, academic grading scale, and detailed Year 3 syllabus (unit description, learning objectives, learning outcomes, assessment required, credit point, number of contact hours per week/ semester, weekly topics, and required reading/ textbook(s)).

    Incomplete application will not be processed and applicant will need to apply for the next intake if application is not completed by the application deadline.

Special Note for International Students:

To ease your visa application process, the school will issue you a conditional offer letter once you submit your application through the MyApp portal even if the the application documents are incomplete. Your conditional offer will only be converted into a full offer once all the required documents are submitted to MyApp and you meet the pre-requisite to enter the course.

Graduate Research Pathway Scholarship

Graduate Research Pathway Scholarship (GRPS) is available and the selection is based on academic merit. All Honours applications submitted by the application deadline will be assessed for GRPS eligibility. No separate application for GRPS is required.

Scholarship outcome for the upcoming July 2026 intake will be released 1-2 weeks after 13 July.
