Internship Science

The internship gives you the opportunity to apply your university learning to the workplace, providing you with the experience in tailoring your academic-based learning to the needs of an industry-based partner, and to network with potential employers. This will prepare you for work or professional practice by integrating theoretical knowledge with practice. You will learn about the process of applying for employment and good workplace practice.

Your internship unit is based on which course you are currently enrolled in. You will be required to undertake:
- FST3800 Food science internship if you are a Bachelor of Food Science and Technology student; or
- MBS3800 Medical bioscience internship if you are a Bachelor of Medical Bioscience student; or
- SCI3800 Science internship if this unit helps and allows you to meet the requirements of your Bachelor of Science. This unit is only available to students enrolled in the S2000 Bachelor of Science at the Malaysia campus
You are required to attend the internship briefing in your second year and your Unit Coordinator will brief you on the application process.

At least 96 credit points (Completed 72 credit points and currently enrolled in 24 credit points prior the internship commencement) or permission of the Head of Discipline
- Internship units usually run during the Summer semester (from November to February the following year).

1. How long is the internship duration?
Minimum 8 weeks and maximum is 12 weeks.

3. What do I do once I have received an offer letter from the company?
Please provide a copy of the offer letter to your Unit Coordinator and Education Management Office. You will then be advised on the enrolment process for the internship unit.
4. How do I enrol into the internship units?
To enrol, you will need to fill in the enrolment amendment form. Please choose "Summer A" for teaching period and "On-campus (Day)" for class type. There will be supporting documents that you need to attach in the form.
5. Can I complete my internship overseas?
Yes, you can. But you have to arrange any permits and visas on your own (please check whether your visa covers an internship in the country of your choice).
6. Does Internship include academic and supervisor assessment activities?
The assessments involved in the unit are stated in the handbook and will be further clarified during the pre-departure briefing.

8. Reimbursement
The school will reimburse students for one vaccination injection and the maximum claimable amount is RM60 for Hepatitis B vaccination and RM70 for Typhoid vaccination.
