Newton-Ungku Omar Fund (NUOF )- Mobility Grant Award
Dr. Irene Ling was awarded this grant for her project titled “Understanding the factors governing the assembly of nanometre scale capsules and tubules”. Her research is aimed at identifying parameters that can control the assembly of nanometre scale entities which will lead to potential application in the areas such as sensor and separation science. She collaborated with Dr Scott Dalgarno of Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh where she spent one month working in his laboratory.
The Newton Fund is an initiative by the UK Government in partnership with 16 countries to support research, science and innovation that has sustainable growth.
In Malaysia this partnership is named after a well-known Malaysian scientist, Prof. Datuk Dr. Ungku Omar Ungku Ahmad for his contribution to medical and health sciences research and hence the name NUOF. The collaboration here is with The Royal Society (UK), Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) and Academy of Sciences Malaysia.
