As part of the faculty cross-campus sea turtle conservation project in Malaysia, one of our tropical ecology student, Abraham Chiew Zheng Sian managed to secure an internship for one month between June and July with Lang Tengah Turtle Watch at Tanjong Jara.
Abraham in the field at Tanjong Jara
The project is initiated by A/Prof. Richard Reina from Monash Australia with the first objective of encouraging a productive research collaboration in environment and ecology between Monash Australia and Monash Malaysia through a co-supervision of an honours project. The second objective is to develop and trial placements of students from both campuses by partnering with the NGO to promote work-integrated learning and develop real world skill in undergraduate students. The internship component aims to help students to gain practical experience in the field of conservation.
We hoped Abraham will continue with his passion for turtle conservation work at Pulau Lang Tengah in the future with the guideance from Dr. Zoe Yek who is an evolution ecologist.
