More than RM500,000 Secured from Three External Grants

Congratulations to our researchers, Dr Michelle Yap Khai Khun and Dr Patrick Tan, on their success in securing external research grants this year!

Dr Michelle Yap has been awarded two external grants. The first, funded by the UK Biochemical Society, supports her project “An aptameric-based epitope-omics approach in landscaping the cytotoxins epitopes atlas”. She also received funding from the Kurita Water and Environment Foundation for her one-year project “Development of aptameric biosensor for sustainable surveillance of cyanotoxins in freshwater ecosystems”.

Meanwhile, Dr Patrick Tan has successfully secured a highly competitive major international grant, funded by the US Naval Medical Research Unit Indo-Pacific. His project, “Assessment of Antimicrobial Resistance Genes in Malaysian Wastewater Treatment Plants: Prevalence, Removal Efficiency, and Transmission Risks”, will contribute to vital research on antimicrobial resistance.

Together, these achievements represent more than RM500,000 in external funding, reflecting the strength and impact of research at the School of Science.
