The penalty for assignments submitted late should be 5% of the maximum mark per day late or part thereof. Weekends and holidays should attract the same penalty as weekdays. No assignment can be accepted for assessment more than a week after the due date except in exceptional circumstances and in consultation with the Unit Coordinator.
Students who are unable to undertake or complete an assessment task due to immediate and exceptional circumstances beyond their control are eligible to apply for more time. Your options will depend on the type of assessment and circumstances.
It is the student's responsibility to check marked assignments upon return. Additional feedback (Section 3.13) can be requested via email to the chief examiner within 10 working days after the feedback is available for the assessment.
Students can apply to view their scheduled final assessment responses for the purpose of their own personal learning. An application can be made to the teaching faculty after results are released for the teaching period and before the end of the first week of the subsequent teaching period.
Students can request a correction of their assessment mark due to an error (Section 5), e.g. if an incorrect late penalty has been applied or due to a miscalculation. A student cannot request a correction of their mark on the basis that they do not agree with the mark, or that they perceive the feedback received to be inadequate.
A student seeking a correction of their mark due to an error must make the request by writing to the chief examiner (or nominee) in the specified timeframe: for assessments during the teaching period: within 10 working days after the mark was released to the student;
or for final assessments: within six weeks after the results were released for the unit with the exception of units taught in semester 2, where the timeframe is no later than the end of the first week of semester 1 of the following year.
In Monash, final exams are known as scheduled final assessments. The final assessments in School of Science are 100% online assessments. It can either be on the eAssessments or on the Moodle platform. As for exam timetable, it will be published in the Allocate+ six weeks before the start of the exam period.
Read more on eExam and familiarise yourself with the rules, how to set your device and how to seek technical support on exam day.
Your final grade/marks of your respective units can be viewed on WES under the unofficial transcript section.
The Grade Point Average (GPA) is an internationally recognised calculation used to find the average result of all grades achieved throughout your course. Your Monash GPA is calculated on a four point grading scale where 4.0 is the highest and 0.0 is the lowest achievement. The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is a calculation used in Malaysia. To get your CGPA you need to request a CGPA letter, as it does not appear on your academic record.
How to read your grade/marks:

Academic progress is the University’s way of checking in and helping if you need additional support to successfully complete your degree.
Students who satisfy any one of the unsatisfactory academic progress rules will be referred to an Academic Progress Committee (APC). The APC may:
● allow the students to continue their course of study; or
● allow the students to continue their course of study with conditions imposed; or
● exclude the student from one or more courses of study in which they are enrolled.
You can apply for study leave (intermission) for one semester or one full year at any one time. When applying for intermission, you should be aware of the key dates to ensure you do not incur any academic or financial penalty for discontinuing your studies. Please note studies undertaken elsewhere during the period of Intermission will not be credited to your course.
If you wish to extend your intermission, you must re-apply; failure to reapply for intermission will result in you losing your place in your course. You are encouraged to go through your course progression plan on how intermission will impact your progression before submitting an application for intermission.
If you encounter an academic related issue, please discuss it with your lecturer or Unit Coordinator. Please refer to the unit Moodle for their contacts. Our academic staff are located at Building 4 Level 8.
