Pac Bio Sequel IIe Launch Day

We are thrilled to announce the launching of our new PacBio Sequel IIe System, housed in the Genomics Facility of the School of Science.  The launching was  inaugurated by Professor Matthew Nicholson (Interim Pro Vice-Chancellor and President of Monash University Malaysia) who was accompanied by Professor Emily Goh Joo Kheng (Head, School of Science),Professor Qasim Ayub (Deputy Head of School (Research), Director Genomics Facility), Dr Chua Khi Pin (Senior Scientist at Pac Bio Asia Pacific) and Mr Robin Chew Keng Siong (Group Chief Operating Officer at Chemo pharm Research Instruments).

The PacBio Sequel IIe System is one of the long-read sequencers in the market which can sequence up to 25,000 bases with accuracy of 99.9% (Q30). This system at Monash University Malaysia is the first of its kind in South East Asia and it will be used mainly for the MUMGF flagship project - the Malaysian Bio Genome Project. This project will have the ambitious goal to promote national bio-conservation efforts through high coverage whole genome sequencing of animal, plant, protozoan and fungal (eukaryotic) species, contributing towards the worldwide efforts being led by the Earth Bio Genome Project which aims to characterize the genomes of all known (~1.5 million) eukaryotic species on Earth over the next decade.

The launching was attended by participants from various universities and research institutions whose projects may benefit from the PacBio Sequel IIe system. We look forward to welcoming potential collaborations to harness the high-fidelity sequencing capability of our new PacBio Sequel IIe system to produce exciting and impactful research over the next few years.
