Malaysian Access and Benefit Sharing System (MyABS) Talk

On 14 October 2025, the School of Science in collaboration with Quality and Governance Unit (QAG) has organised a research talk on the Malaysian Access and Benefit Sharing System (MyABS), featuring invited speakers from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) at the Monash University Malaysia.

Implemented in 2017, MyABS aligns with the Convention on Biological Diversity and its related protocols on access to biological resources, traditional knowledge, and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from their use.

The session aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of MyABS and to help the research community align their work with national biodiversity and research governance requirements. The talk was presented by Mr. Mohammed Anas bin Mohd Akdi, Assistant Secretary, Biodiversity and Forestry Management Division, and Ms. Nurul Izzah binti Mohammed Azlee, Assistant Project Manager from the same division.

The session saw participation from researchers and staff across the Schools of Science, Pharmacy, and Medicine. It concluded successfully with an engaging discussion and valuable insights shared by both the speakers and participants. We hope this session will support our ongoing efforts to ensure all research activities at Monash University are conducted in full compliance with Malaysia’s biodiversity and national regulations.
