Celebrating Excellence in Educational Innovation at I-PICTL2026
We are thrilled to announce that academics from the School of Science at Monash University Malaysia have been awarded Silver and Bronze medals at the International Putra Innocreative Carnival in Teaching and Learning (I-PICTL2026) X Service Learning Malaysia - SULAM@UPM Carnival 2026!
These demonstrate our commitment to research-led teaching, pedagogical innovation, and creating transformational learning experiences for our students.
🥈 SILVER MEDAL “Bridging Environmental Management Theory and Practice through SULAM with the Temuan Orang Asli Community of Kampung Sungai Gapoi”
Team led by Dr Faddrine Jang.
In collaboration with the Temuan Orang Asli community and sustainability consultancy IMPACTO, this SULAM initiative bridged environmental theory with impactful community engagement. Students worked alongside community members to conduct Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA), stakeholder consultations, and sustainability audits to develop evidence-based recommendations for a sustainable, climate-resilient ecotourism model that balances biodiversity conservation, Indigenous cultural values, and economic opportunities.
🥉 BRONZE MEDAL “Prompt-based Generative AI Development of Gamification in Undergraduate Learning of Pharmacology”
Team: Dr. Michelle Yap, Dr. Teng Suk Kuan, and Dr. Juwaini Abu Bakar
This project leveraged iterative natural-language prompting with Generative AI to design scenario-based escape room gamification for complex pharmacology concepts. By using AI as a co-design tool to bypass traditional coding barriers, the team demonstrated a low-cost, accessible blueprint for educators to rapidly create interactive tools used in learning.
Congratulations to all our award-winning academics for continuing to push the boundaries of innovative higher education! 👏🎉
