If you are working, who is your current employer and what is your role?

I am currently working at DKSH Technology Sdn Bhd as an Application Specialist for the Scientific Instrumentation Business Line. My role in the company is to provide pre and post- sales technical application support. The job scope is to provide technical support to the customer based on our wide-range product portfolio, sample testing in the lab, product demonstrations and application trainings, and method development for customer’s applications.

Why did you choose Monash Malaysia?

The decision was simple; Monash University Malaysia is a prestigious university, well known for its reputation as a research university and is ranked in the world’s top 100.

While at Monash, what type of opportunities did you participate in?

I had the opportunity to participate in the various field trips made available to the Tropical Biology students and also in the Monash Cup organized by the Monash University Student Association (MUSA).

Whilst at Monash, did you have any industry exposure/placements? How has it benefited you?

Yes, I did an internship at Halvec Laboratories, a testing lab focusing on halal testing. I was able to apply the skills and experience I obtained from carrying out tests and operating instruments in the following semesters to come as well as in my workplace today.

What do you love most about your student life at Monash?

The friendships made along the journey at Monash and not forgetting the awesome field trips which were part of the Tropical Biology’s units course outline.

Outside work or study were you able to build on your interest i.e. volunteering, mentoring other students, other educational pursuit )?

Yes, I was very interested in the education provided in the BIO units and chose to sign up as a member for Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) and was actively joining in the activities organised by them during the weekends.

Have the experiences you have been talking about above made a difference to the way you approach your work and your career?

Yes, it prepared me in the way I approach certain situations and to tackle issues faced while having a mindset to accept criticisms openly to continuously improve myself.

What is your goal/dream in life, where are you headed to in the future?

My goal is to elevate the experience and skills I obtain here at DKSH Technology Sdn Bhd as an Application Specialist to further enable myself to continue supporting at a regional level.

What is your advice to current Monash Malaysia students?

Hone your skills, especially soft skills and social skills as these are the most important when going into the working world. As a university student, we are always tied down by assignment deadlines. Therefore, properly manage your time management as deadlines are very well existent in the working world as well. Last but not least, surround yourself with good friendships as they make the most difficult times more bearable.
