Walk-in consultations are available Monday – Friday, 2.00 p.m. – 5.00 p.m.
Before you come in for consultation you are encouraged to first attend an information session and conduct your own research via the Monash Abroad website.
Sessions that are held each semester at the Malaysia campus, to learn about where you can study overseas, eligibility requirements, financing your trip, etc.
Information session details (date, time, location) are sent to students via a broadcast email, so keep a look out for it!
Can I do more than one overseas program?
You can do any combination of the exchange programs to a partner university or Monash Australia, as long as they fit into your course
and your School approves your study plans.
What is the Statement of Purpose?
A 250-word essay explaining why you want to go on exchange. Address why have you chosen the university specified in your first preference, why is it a good fit for you and your degree, what are your academic goals for going on exchange, any other information which would support your application (e.g. what you hope to accomplish, how your experience could contribute to your personal goals, relevant extra-curricular activities you had completed).
Will I get credits for units I study overseas?
Yes, so long as you take units approved by your School.
Will my degree take longer if I go on exchange?
No, provided you complete and pass all units at your overseas host university or unless otherwise advised by your School during the study plan approval stage.
Will my overseas grades appear on my Monash transcript?
If you exchange to a partner university, you will receive an official transcript from your host university showing all the units you did and your marks. Your Monash transcript will only show Satisfied Faculty Requirements (SFR). If you do an intercampus exchange or a faculty/school overseas program organised by a Monash Faculty/School, all the units and marks will appear on your Monash transcript in the usual way.
How will I get my transcript from the host university?
The host university will send your transcript to Monash Abroad Malaysia. You will be contacted to collect your transcripts from the Monash Abroad office.
Where will I graduate?
You will graduate from Monash.
Do I have to enrol at Monash while I am overseas?
Yes, you will continue to be enrolled as a Monash Malaysia student whilst overseas.
Do I need to speak a foreign language?
No, but overseas study is a great way to learn one. All our partner universities teach in English or offer a large number of subjects taught in English.
Before Your Exchange Semester
Will the host university help me find accommodation?
Most of our partner universities have on-campus accommodation and can help arrange this for you. However, with some universities, on-campus accommodation is extremely limited and you may have to secure your own accommodation. They may be able to advise you on some off-campus accommodation options but you are still entirely responsible for making your own arrangements and in some instances, you need to start looking for this in advance.
Will Monash help me apply for visa?
All students participating in exchange programs are responsible for obtaining their own visas to cover the duration of their exchange. Monash will assist with certifying your supporting documents and issuing confirmation of enrolment.
