1. Can you both share how you decided to attend the same university? Was it a mutual decision, or did you influence the other?

Alysa: My elder sister was a big part of what influenced me to choose Monash. I look up to her and admire the person that she's come to be. On top of that, my parents were also alumni of Monash University Malaysia, which assured me that I'd get the best quality of education.

2. For Alysa: How has having Charis as an alumna influenced your Monash experience so far?

Alysa: Throughout my study here, my sister has been able to offer me advice and guidance based on her experiences.

3. For Charis: What are some of the advantages and challenges you faced as a student, and how do you think they compare to Alysa's experience now?

During my university time, I spent a lot of time on campus, and there was no option to join classes virtually. The advantage is that I was able to immerse myself in campus life and have more face time with lecturers and fellow students. The trade-off is spending way more time on logistics, transitioning to university and back.

Alysa's current experience is definitely an evolution of what I had back in the day - with the development of technology. There's more flexibility and, hence, more time back in students' hands. Furthermore, the campus facilities have really improved tremendously, enhancing student life!

4. Can you both share a memorable experience you've had together related to Monash, either during your time as a student or since then?

Alysa: I recall visiting the Monash University Malaysia campus with my sister and parents before deciding to enrol. The campus was buzzing with students happily chatting away, with a few of them rock climbing! My sister showed us around campus while sharing her university day's flashbacks. That helped me make my decision of which university to choose.

Charis: It gave me a sense of pride showing my sister around the university, including my favourite hangout spots. Doing that made me reminisce about the good old days as a student.

5. How do you maintain your sibling bond?

Both: We make it a point to spend time together, whether it's a short car ride together, a cafe hangout, or even doing recreational activities together. On a typical day, you'd find us at the dinner table chatting away about almost anything under the sun - from small talk to big topics. That helps us stay connected!

6. Can you share any advice for siblings considering attending the same university together?

Alysa: Leverage the network your siblings have built in the university for a quick start to your campus life!

Charis: To the older sibling - don't forget to share your experience and pro tips on thriving in university, including advice on how your sibling can get the best start in their career once they graduate! You get so much insight a few years into the workplace, which will be of immense value to your younger sibling(s).
