Food and entertainment
One of the biggest advantages of living in Malaysia is the food. Eating out is a popular activity, with friends and families often enjoying a meal together. You’ll find an amazing choice of affordable, palate-pleasing cuisines and many options for entertainment and eateries abound in the Bandar Sunway area, including halal choices.
Food in Malaysia
Malaysia, particularly the Klang Valley, which includes Kuala Lumpur and Bandar Sunway, is well known for the diversity of its food choices, including Chinese, Indian and Malay. While living in Bandar Sunway, you can enjoy affordable and typical Malaysian food at restaurants and stalls within walking distance of campus. Most major global fast-food outlets are also present in Malaysia, including McDonalds, KFC, Burger King and Subway.
Hawker food
The cheapest place to eat is at hawker centres, which you’ll find everywhere. They’re usually an open-air area with many stalls that sell a variety of inexpensive food. But make sure you choose the right place to avoid getting an upset stomach. You can walk from our main campus to the Rock Café hawker centre, or ‘medan’ as the students call it, in 10 minutes.
Eating on campus
The campus cafeteria, located in Building B6, Level 1, provides many different types of food. Drink vending machines are also available in many campus buildings.
Shopping
Shopping malls abound in the Klang Valley, with several in Bandar Sunway and adjacent areas. The Sunway Pyramid Shopping Centre, which houses over 700 shops, is connected to the campus by the Canopy Walk.
Most shopping centres feature a major grocery outlet. You can also buy a wide range of goods at the many supermarkets and smaller outlets in the area, and the number of specialty stores increases each year.
Major retail brands, such as Tesco and Aeon have a strong presence in Malaysia, and big retailers, including Ikea and Harvey Norman, are located just a few minutes from campus.
Entertainment and nightlife
You will find a theme park, hotels, clubs and bars within minutes of the campus. The award-winning Sunway Lagoon Theme Park is a popular, nearby tourist attraction and concert venue for international artists, and the world-renowned Ministry of Sound nightclub is located at the Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel.
About 30 minutes drive from Bandar Sunway, you will also find the shopping and entertainment precinct of Bukit Bintang, famed for its swanky bars, restaurants, cafes and landmark shopping centres.
Other nearby attractions
With Kuala Lumpur so close to Bandar Sunway, and the Klang Valley in which they’re both located so vibrant, you’ll find plenty to do in between classes and study.
From the nearby Sepang International Circuit, home to the Malaysian Grand Prix, to the Malaysian Symphony Orchestra, based in the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, to the night markets of Petaling Street to the Bird Park and Batus Caves, you have plenty of nearby attractions to choose from.
