1. Tell us about this scholarship.
The Graduate Research Excellence Scholarship is a campus-funded scholarship awarded to Masters or PhD students who have received first-class honours or equivalent in their undergraduate studies. This scholarship provides a 100 per cent tuition fee waiver and a monthly stipend.
2. Why did you apply for this scholarship?
It has always been my dream to become a lecturer someday. This dream stems from my desire to make a difference and inspire the younger generation to realise their inner potential. Besides the financial assistance provided, I applied for this scholarship because of the opportunity to contribute back to the university through tutoring in undergraduate units. As an aspiring lecturer, I believe that this would be a great platform for me to gain more teaching experience.
3. How did you choose your planned program of study?
I chose to specialise in Chemical Engineering because I was always fascinated with math and chemicals. Furthermore, I am interested in the research direction led by my supervisors, which focuses on palm oil processing and sustainability engineering. There was a huge opportunity for me to do a PhD under their guidance. Ultimately, I chose to pursue my PhD because I believe that this program would be a great pathway for me to build my academic portfolio.
4. What do you hope to gain from the Monash experience?
I hope to spend the coming years learning from my supervisors, my team, my peers, and my students about what it takes to be a great researcher and educator. And with all this experience and knowledge gained, I hope to realise my calling in academia upon graduation.
5. How has the scholarship assisted you?
This scholarship has assisted me financially through the monthly stipend. More importantly, it has opened doors for me to channel my passion for teaching and inspiring students through the tutoring commitment.
