1. Tell us about this fee waiver.

Graduate Research Excellence Scholarship (GRES) is a premium Monash University Malaysia offers to any qualifiable PhD student. It’s a confidence-boost and financial aid for me. I can focus better on my research with the full tuition fee waiver and a monthly stipend.

2. Why did you apply for this fee waiver?

Making the decision to switch from a corporate setting to a research environment is tough because, essentially, I would lose my source of income for the coming years. GRES provides the benefits of covering my living expenses, and henceforth, I’m able to focus my time on research.

3. How did you choose your planned program of study?

The research field is my primary consideration in choosing a PhD program. I’m interested in AI-powered diagnostic tools in the treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders. My area of interest aligned closely with my supervisors at Monash University Malaysia. Monash University Malaysia has a strong network with top-notch universities, career-advice service and funding. These factors reassure me that conducting cutting-edge interdisciplinary research and contributing to the development of new AI-based diagnostic tools could have a significant impact on the lives of patients suffering from neuropsychiatric disorders.

4. What do you hope to gain from the Monash experience?

Apart from gaining a deeper understanding of my research, I aim to establish strong and professional connections with experts in the field. I am excited to learn and grow in the diverse and inclusive environment Monash has provided, where I can be a student and an expert at the same time. Monash experiences would be an essential asset in preparing me for an interests-aligned career in research and academia.

5. How has the fee waiver assisted you?

The GRES scholarship is the main contribution that allows me to continue my PhD at Monash University Malaysia. Additionally, the fee waiver opens new opportunities for me to network and collaborate with other tutors and lecturers. These experiences are imperative in shaping my skills and knowledge and paving the way for my future career.
