What are key qualities that have defined your leadership style or career journey?

Stay passionate about what I'm doing and be compassionate to those around me. For a sustainable career journey, I believe adaptability and having a growth mindset for continuous learning can define one's success.

What has been the most significant barrier in your career?

Juggling the many roles of an academic-learning facilitator, supervisor for both UG and GR students, researcher, and service roles. Balancing these multiple roles and responsibilities requires effective time management and prioritisation skills. Ultimately, these skills are crucial for work-life balance while we strive for career growth. That said, I must admit that I have yet to perfect these skills, and I am still learning and improving with the guidance of my mentors.

How can women empower other women?

Women can empower other women through mentorship, networking, and providing opportunities for career development. It is also important to create a supportive environment where achievements are recognised. Besides acknowledging the significance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance for a sustainable career goal, we need to understand and support a range of diverse personal and family needs. Ultimately, we women should not be defined by stereotypes. We should encourage each other to stay true to ourselves and break free from limiting societal expectations.

What are the ways you stay grounded and take care of yourself?

Being mindful that everyone has their own battles and that comparison and competition are meaningless without being empathetic and supportive of each other's unique journeys and challenges. The best self-care for me is a healthy work-life balance that enables me to engage in activities that bring joy to me, my family and my friends.

What is your message to the next generation?

To the next generation, my message would be to embrace curiosity and continuous learning with an open mind. Don't be afraid to pursue your passions, even if they diverge from traditional paths. While the world is ever-changing, strive to leave a positive impact on the world around you, whether through small acts of kindness or larger efforts to make the world a better place for everyone. Lastly, always remember that the journey is just as important as the destination. Failures are often valuable lessons in disguise that lead to eventual success.
