1) Tell us about the Star Education Fund scholarship.
The scholarship that I was awarded was non-bonded in nature and provided full tuition fee waivers. The application process was uncomplicated and straightforward. The Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine comprises an International Student Admission Test and two interviews, a panel interview and multiple small interviews.
2) In what ways do you believe this scholarship aligns with your academic and career aspirations?
The scholarship provides me with the opportunity to pursue my desired academic path, medicine, without financial concern. With the scholarship, I can strategically allocate my current resources and funds to various external medical and non-medical training programs. This allows me to cultivate a well-rounded knowledge base and experience, which enhances my ability to deliver comprehensive and effective care and treatment to my future patients.
3) What motivated you to pursue this particular scholarship opportunity?
Witnessing the passing of a beloved one, and with the feeling of helplessness, has undeniably left an emotional impact and scars on me. Therefore, pursuing a career in medicine has always been my choice. The acquisition of this scholarship brings my aspirations to reality, allowing me to protect my loved ones and extend my support to those in need in my future medical practice.
4) In what ways has the scholarship played a role in shaping your overall university experience?
This scholarship has granted me the opportunity to collaborate and work with like-minded souls, allowing me to learn from esteemed and prestigious professionals such as doctors, professors and lecturers. In addition, Monash University Malaysia offers a conducive study environment, which made my education journey smooth and hassle-free. Moreover, with the comprehensive and up-to-date information provided, I am able to navigate the dynamic and ever-changing society and medical field.
5) Are there specific challenges or milestones that stand out as crucial to your growth?
With the constantly evolving and ever-changing medical field, too many resources can confuse the prioritisation of essential information. However, this will not be an excuse to remain stagnant, but it highlights the importance of being focused and committed to progress.
6) Drawing from your experience, what advice would you give to students considering applying for scholarships?
Excelling academics is crucial, but it is equally vital to balance out other aspects of life, such as sports. University life is enjoyable and fun, yet the substantial stress that comes along with the need to juggle between personal life and work is undeniable. Showcasing the capability to let off steam is important, as it offers a pathway to long-term success. Moreover, prioritising self-improvement, particularly cultivating soft skills, will open you to various great opportunities. Last but not least, you are your main driver to personal achievement, so do not let your plans stay in mind; just do it.
