The Graduate Research Excellence Scholarship (GRES) stands as a distinguished opportunity provided by Monash University Malaysia, aimed at recognising and supporting high-achieving students pursuing their postgraduate studies. This prestigious scholarship encompasses a full tuition fee waiver and a monthly stipend.

2.  In what ways do you believe this scholarship aligns with your academic and career aspirations?

My passion for learning and teaching finds a perfect avenue for realisation through the GRES. This scholarship not only fulfils my dream of delving deeper into chemistry-based research but also provides essential financial support, allowing me to concentrate fully on my studies. The added teaching component within the scholarship aligns seamlessly with my career aspirations to become an educator, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to a prestigious institution like Monash University Malaysia.

3.  What motivated you to pursue this particular scholarship opportunity?

While exploring postgraduate opportunities, I came across a chemistry-based research topic at Monash University Malaysia that deeply resonated with my interest, and I was keen to work on the project. The necessity for financial assistance to be able to work on that particular project became the driving force for me to apply for this scholarship. Additionally, the scholarship’s teaching component perfectly complements my enthusiasm for teaching. Monash's prestigious reputation, coupled with its state-of-the-art research facilities and supportive supervisors, further motivated me to pursue this scholarship opportunity.

4.  In what ways has the scholarship played a role in shaping your overall university experience?

This scholarship has opened doors for me to engage in high-impact research, granting access to cutting-edge research facilities and abundant resources. The financial support has been pivotal, allowing me to immerse myself completely in my research without financial constraints. Moreover, being surrounded by an inspiring community of postgraduate peers, many of whom are recipients of similar scholarships, has created a supportive environment. We consistently encourage and assist one another, fostering a collaborative spirit that propels us towards achieving our individual goals collectively.

5.  Are there specific challenges or milestones that stand out as crucial to your growth?

Anticipating the competitiveness and challenges associated with applying for this scholarship, I embraced the opportunity with determination, recognising the need for diligent effort. A year prior to submitting my application, I was fortunate to secure research placements at multiple prestigious universities, gaining valuable research experiences and contributing to publications. Meticulous planning before the application process was essential, ensuring thorough preparedness for a successful application.

Embarking on my PhD journey at Monash University Malaysia brought forth a steep learning curve, wherein effective time management emerged as a significant challenge. Striking a balance between experimental work, literature reviews, teaching duties, and personal well-being became paramount for sustained success and personal growth. This experience has taught me the importance of adaptability and resilience in pursuing academic excellence.

6.  Drawing from your experience, what advice would you give to students considering applying for scholarships?

I recommend pursuing this scholarship opportunity for your postgraduate studies. This scholarship not only provides essential financial assistance but also offers a supportive environment crucial for academic success. My advice is to build a robust research background, demonstrating dedication and passion for your chosen field. 7. What is your current research project about?

My research revolves around calixarenes. They are versatile building blocks with a unique bucket-like structure and multiple reaction sites, which makes them valuable in supramolecular chemistry. I focus on synthesising novel branched alkyl chain calixarene derivatives, exploring their self-assembly properties, and investigating potential applications in areas such as molecular transportation and separation technology.
