Episode 8: Keep the sparkles glowing
Step into the enchanting world of fireflies, nature’s tiny lights that have long sparked curiosity, creativity, and scientific wonder. In this special World Firefly Day episode of Future Conversations, we explore the science, stories, and survival of these incredible bioluminescent creatures, with a spotlight on Malaysia’s own recent discovery: the Gombak bent-winged firefly (Pteroptyx gombakia).
Leading this conversation is Dr Cyren Wong, Head of the School of Pathways and Immersion at Monash University Malaysia. He’s joined by Dr Wan Faridah Akmal Jusoh, Senior Lecturer at the School of Science, and science journalist Law Yao Hua from Macaranga. Together, they bring a blend of research insight, field experience, and narrative depth to help us see fireflies in a whole new light.
