Samantha Dias
The one with a global perspective
Bachelor of Commerce (2011)
Monash graduate and Sri Lanka national, Samantha Dias who hails from Colombo was a graduate of Bachelor of Commerce, Economics and International Business with a minor in Marketing. With an interest in research and analysis on new markets and trends, she has chosen the perfect course as it has a global perspective and a large research component to it, which she loved.
When asked of her thoughts on the lecturers, she has this to say. “The lecturers were always excellent, thus student attendance was always very high, in particular for Dr. Haemala’s class. Economics teacher, Professor Herath for example, was very helpful and has his door open for any questions that we have.”
The extracurricular activities on campus are plenty ranging from sports clubs, religious societies, rock climbing up to performing arts. A former President of the Monash University International Student Services Council (MUISS 2009-2010) and former member of the Monash University Student Association (MUSA 2009-2010), Samantha finds that the experience has greatly benefitted her especially in the workplace and lends weight on her resume.
Students in Monash Malaysia come from different countries. This diversity of students, Samantha feels, is a vital environment for anyone who wants to break into an international environment together with a recognized degree. “If you’re planning to migrate to a foreign country, brand recognition of the university you have attended is also important,” she advises.
No doubt Samantha has chosen the right path to complete her studies in Monash Malaysia as she now embarks on a journey in the working world as an Assistant Manager for Marketing Communications for a US-based supply chain technology firm.
We couldn’t be happier for her!
