Create Change: Professor Teh Pei Lee
The prominent figure
An esteemed academic, Professor Dr Teh Pei Lee is the Head of the Department of Management at Monash University Malaysia and the Director of the Gerontechnology Laboratory.
She founded the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers Technology and Engineering Management Society (IEEE TEMS) Malaysia Chapter. As a prominent figure in academic and industry circles, she consistently receives awards for her work.
Beyond academia, she actively contributes to various projects funded by the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation, and the World Health Organization.
Technology for all ages
Professor Teh uses her expertise to help older adults live their best lives with the assistance of technology. She is currently leading a project called AGELESS (Transforming Cognitive Frailty into Later-Life Self-Sufficiency) aimed at helping senior citizens with mobility issues maintain their independence. Together with her team, they have developed a mobility app and a smart home system that allows users to control their home environment with just a tap on their smartphones. The main objective is to promote independence, health, and safety for older adults.
Professor Teh fondly recalled, "My dad retired at 56, yet his impact on our lives never ceased. Through his battle with cancer in his 70s, he illuminated the importance of resilience and human connections. His love and strength were a constant inspiration."
Driven by her father's example, she embarked on a mission to make a difference and ensure that everyone could experience the joy of a happy and healthy life, especially in their golden years.
