Monash University Malaysia alumni year-end gathering
The Monash University Malaysia Alumni Year-End Gathering was a remarkable evening that celebrated the vibrant and diverse community of Monash University Malaysia graduates. Held on 5 December 2024 at the Study Melbourne Hub, Jaya One, the event brought together alumni from various fields, particularly entrepreneurs, for an evening of networking, connection, and camaraderie.
Set in a warm and welcoming atmosphere, the gathering provided an excellent platform for alumni to reconnect with old friends, meet new faces, and explore opportunities for collaboration. Attendees were excited to share their personal and professional journeys, exchanging ideas and insights that enriched the collective experience of the evening.
A key highlight of the event was a panel discussion featuring three distinguished alumni: Jimmy Yeap (founder of Mintygreen Healthcare Group), Tan Guan Sheng (founder and Chief Executive Officer of Ittify) and Vandana Ratnani (co-founder of Chinie’s), moderated by Kieron Ngoh, a training consultant in Exceed Excellence. Their participation underscored the immense talent and achievements within the Monash alumni community, serving as a powerful example of how Monash graduates are shaping industries and creating meaningful impact in the entrepreneurial landscape.
The trio highlighted the importance of having passion and trust in a business as key drivers for perseverance, and to maintain a positive attitude when promoting the venture. Jimmy quoted John C. Maxwell, “People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care,” showing how crucial it is to be advocates of your own business, and to be willing to network with the people around you. Whilst speaking about talent retention, they shared the importance of looking after those under one’s care.
Beyond the formalities, the evening fostered genuine connections and meaningful conversations. Alumni with shared interests and aspirations found opportunities to collaborate, while others were inspired by the stories of those who had walked similar paths.
The Monash University Malaysia Alumni Year-End Gathering was not only a celebration of individual achievements but also a testament to the strength of the alumni network. We also announced the pilot launching of our Monash Malaysia Alumni Business Circle, a newly established initiative by the Alumni Engagement Office in Monash University Malaysia, designed to group alumni who progressed into entrepreneurship after graduation, forming a pool of entrepreneurial talents to foster a community where alumni entrepreneurs can network, exchange industry insights, collaborate on business initiatives, and mentor aspiring entrepreneurs or professionals.
