Data and Democracy Dialogue 2025

Join us for the Data and Democracy Dialogue 2025, where researchers, policymakers, and civil society come together to tackle the complex interplay between digital transformation and democratic governance in ASEAN. Building on last year’s dialogue on ‘Information Disorder during Election Period,’ this year’s forum will unveil research on a new ASEAN-focused Disinformation Index and explore practical strategies to strengthen digital resilience, rebuild public trust, and safeguard democratic values.

This event aims to:

• introduce and critically discuss the findings of the newly developed Disinformation Index for the ASEAN region, highlighting its relevance to electoral integrity, political participation, and civil liberties
• provide a platform for researchers, policymakers, journalists, civil society organisations, and technology actors to exchange knowledge and co-develop policy recommendations based on empirical data and regional case studies
• foster cross-border dialogue and cooperation among ASEAN stakeholders on shared democratic challenges and opportunities in the digital age
• raise awareness on the Data and Democracy Research Hub and its researchers in Monash University Indonesia, Monash University Malaysia, and Monash University Australia.
