Nikita Matilda Fernandes

Exchanged to University of Warwick, UK

If there’s one thing that I learned during my exchange program was to squeeze every opportunity life has to offer!  I arrived in a country that I had never visited before, and one where I didn’t know a single person.  There I was, three months later,  biding sincere farewells to my friends from all over the world, in the hope of meeting them again.

This exchange program was a real game-changer for me, not only did it allow me to learn and work alongside excellent professors but also gave me the opportunity to interact with students from different ethnic backgrounds and cultures, along the way.

This truly gave me a sense of place in the world community and helped me gain a fresh perspective on my life. The diversity and the vivid life of the UK is what I fell in love with most and not only did I get a chance to see that part of the world but was able to live in it, experience it and create cherishable memories.

From an academic perspective, I thoroughly enjoyed the variety of courses offered and had the opportunity to expand my knowledge and specialize in the subjects that interested me the most, like Modern Social Theory and Politics. I made sure to attend every class and actively participated in the rich student life by joining intercultural workshops.

This exchange was the greatest experience of my life. If I had never gone forward for this, I probably wouldn’t have seen what I saw and experience what I did. It will be difficult at first, but at the same time, fantastically exhilarating and even life-changing.

So my simple advice to you is: Challenge yourself!
