In Search of Makassar & Toraja: The Movie

Organiser: Dr Yeoh Seng Guan and Dr Jonathan Driskell

The regular alternative film screening program Nasi Bungkus Cinema, hosted by the School of Arts and Social Sciences, returns on Wednesday 1 April 2015 at 6pm in room 9-5-08 (Comm Lab).

For two weeks in late 2014, eighteen student-travellers from the School of Arts & Social Sciences, Monash University Malaysia, trekked the roads and mountain trails of Makassar and Toraja on the eastern Indonesian Island of Sulawesi.

They encountered a range of people, and listened to the experiences and stories of various individuals, groups and communities. They watched local ceremonies and practices that seemed quite perplexing to them. And they forged close friendships that didn't exist before.

This is their story.
