The School of Business cordially invites you to an Industry Speaker Series, entitled "Getting Out of the Rut: Lessons from China" by Dr. Peter Thong.
The talk will focus on China’s strategy of getting out of a poverty rut that had plagued the PRC Chinese for decades. The talk will reveal how a country with a huge financial burden managed to extricate its feet from a deep rut consisting of poor housing, bumpy roads, outdated technology, weak foreign currency reserves etc. to transform into a nation that is now world - renown for iconic buildings, well connected infrastructure, high speed trains, an automotive industry ranked World No. 1, latest state of the art renewable energy, cutting edge technologies, innovative IT products, extremely strong foreign currency reserves etc.
In the event that we run into a rut, can we draw a parallel from China’s strategies and get ourselves unstuck from the rut to change our destiny? Can we apply some of the strategies that the corporations in China had proven successful?
Our Speaker will provide an overview of the Chinese economic landscape over the last 32 years he was working there. He will share his experience on how China changed from rags to riches. The talk will also touch on the measures that Chinese and Multi-National Corporations in China adopted to mitigate adverse market circumstances and the resultant impact on their company performance, industry and China’s overall economy.
