The Department of Mechanical Engineering under the School of Engineering at Monash University Malaysia welcomed participants to the Monash Design and Aerodynamic Concept Workshop, bringing together enthusiastic high school students for an engaging introduction to engineering design, aerodynamics, and performance-driven innovation. Endorsed by STEM Racing Malaysia, the workshop gave students the opportunity to explore how creativity, teamwork, problem-solving, and engineering thinking come together in designing high-performance miniature Formula 1-inspired cars.
The event began with opening remarks from Associate Professor Tan Boon Thong, Deputy Head of School (Education) for the School of Engineering. The workshop was coordinated by Dr Lim Fang Sheng (Workshop Coordinator), with support from PhD student Tharuma as Technical Coordinator and guidance from Professor Hung Yew Mun as Advisor. The morning Design Concept Workshop, explored how design decisions influence a car's characteristics and performance. Participants examined the role of design inspiration in developing a coherent concept and observed an Autodesk software demonstration.

The Aerodynamic Concept Workshop focused on the impact of lift and drag forces on performance. Participants learnt strategies to optimise aerodynamic efficiency and observed an Ansys software demonstration.
The program concluded with short closing remarks from the organisers after an afternoon of technical learning and discussion. Across the two sessions, participants gained practical exposure to engineering and motorsport while strengthening their creativity, teamwork, problem-solving and communication skills.
This initiative reflected the School of Engineering’s commitment to nurturing young talents, strengthening STEM education, and inspiring future engineers to think boldly, design creatively, and solve real-world challenges with confidence.
