| Description | Mental Health First Aid is the help provided to a person developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis until professional help is available. The training promotes the understanding of mental health illnesses and the ‘know-how’ to help without being overwhelmed. The program also aims to increase awareness of behaviours which if left unattended could escalate to more serious problems such as violence and self-injury. By attending this course, staff will be in a better position to play an effective role in promoting the well-being of members of the campus community. This MHFA program will be conducted by Ms Na Mui Gee, Head of Counselling, Health and Wellness Services. Mui Gee is an accredited MHFA instructor by Orygen Research Centre, University of Melbourne. Conducted in the form of a workshop, the program focuses on active participation of members and involves experiential activities, case scenarios, role plays, and group discussions. Course participants will receive a manual at the beginning of the training. Please note that the cost of the manual given to each participant (approximately AUD26 per pax), will be borne by the respective schools/units.
